A community for communication

For me, CAD 101A has always been interesting and fascinating. I always had a keen sense to learn rhetoric and I see that I can figure it out here. I have found this class useful for my HCOM 214 class wherein I need to summarize four books that overall revolve on interpersonal skills and communication. I had an intense need to focus on Rhetorical aspects because of the need to communicate with the other person effectively. From this class what I have learned and what I tried following in my HCOM class was to have an effective argument the sentence level should ensure that sentences are direct, without a large number of wanders aimlessly. Short sentences are not really better in a talk, and the best thing is to go for a blend of short and long sentences. The well-organized section is likewise a key to a great talk. The principal sentence or two ought to precisely mirror the primary concern of the section and ought to present the passage's key terms. At long last, you can improve t
The labor for this class helps me in my other classes because it helps me look back at what I've done for those classes and shows me how I'm spending my time on certain assignments also how it keeps me updated with work I've been assigned and knowing I turned it in keeps me on track.
The concept from our class that I find myself use the most in my other classes is the descriptive outline. In my other classes I do lots of academic reading and the concepts in the readings tend to get lost through out the reading due to tendency to read just to read. Descriptive outlines help with that tendency because when writing a descriptive outline you have to slow down on your reading which makes you comprehend what you are reading, and when writing out the different types of chunks for the readings you are re-writing what is written in the assigned reading from doing this you are reading and explaining whats being read which can help with comprehension. Descriptive outlines prove to help slow down reading and make it easier to understand and if needed easier to review because each topic will have its own written chunk of the purpose and concept.

I have learned several concepts from my CAD 101-A class and each one of them I've applied to situations outside the classroom. The concept of conducting rhetorical analysis as I read other texts for different classes is something I have noticed myself doing recently. For my First Year Seminar, (Comparative Ethnic Experiences), there are parts within the book we were assigned that can be difficult to understand. On one occasion I remember a quote that took me a while to truly grasp what was being said.  “I am now noting at reveille by candlelight and waiting the signal for muster...Violence leads to violence…”(Zinn p.149)." As I spoke aloud what exactly I was reading I needed to look up the definition of words like reveille and muster, to get a better understanding of the context of the sentence. The labor log is something else that I have noticed I have been incorporating in my everyday life as well. As I read through my labor log, I find myself looking at the bes
There are many concepts and strategies that we have been learning in class that will come in hand for other classes and overall our daily life. For me personally while being in high school I was never taught how to find good sources specially scholarly sources. In the time I have taking this class I have learned a lot of important tools that have made me a better reader and writer.  When it comes to long readings not only assigned in this class I have learned to chunk the reading, highlight the reading, and read it several times to understand the text.  When I first started using strategies that we learned in class was in my HCOM class. For our midterm we need to present a speech. For that speech we need to resreach a topic discussed in class and use one search as one of the tools we use. At first I was so confused on what scholars sources to use or overall use good and reliable sources. I then took what I learned in my CAD class and research my topic and found reliable sources. I have used the concepts I have learned from the concept tracker in my classes. The concepts I have been using are audience and context. In the class I've been writing essays for books we have been reading and the concepts have been used to improve these essays. I use the audience concept to determine how I should write the essay. It determines the wording I use and how I use the next concept which is context. The amount of context I use is little since the audience is the teacher and other students who have read the book. With the small amount of context used the meaning of my essays should be understandable since everyone in class has read the same thing.

Julian Moore's Transfer Blog

Julian Moore Professor Graph CAD101A October 8, 2019 Transfer Blog There have been many concepts and strategies I learned throughout my time in CAD101A that I have implemented into my daily life and scholarly work while at California State University Monterey Bay. A concept I struggled with heavily before college was scholarly research. I was never properly taught how to find credible scholarly sources and cite them appropriately in the format necessary for the assignment. Although I am only a month and a half into school I have improved immensely in this department. The research for my Individual Inquiry project has been a learning process but I am now able to successfully search for scholarly sources through one search. One search is a research engine that has reliable sources written by other educated Scholars, this filters out weak non-credible sources one may find when doing a google search. There are many approaches to take when starting research. For example some fact
There are many concepts that I have learned in reading and writing that have positively transferred over into my other classes. The one I would like to talk about it purpose. In reading and writing we learn not only about what we are reading, but the purpose behind what we are reading and the effect of it. This is applied in my finite math class. My teacher, Mr. Doss, emphasizes the importance of knowing the importance of understanding formulas and why they are put together the way they are instead of just memorizing them.  For example: y = mx + b This is the equation of a line It is important to know that B is where the line intercepts the y-axis. M is the slope of the line. And X is where the line intercepts the x-axis. "B" is the point value of where the line intercepts the y axis, called the y intercept. "M" is the value of the slope of the line. "X" is the value where the line intercepts the x axis.

First off, I completely agree with the idea that learning concepts can be transferred and used in many different classes and situations. For me personally, I have already experienced, on multiple occasions, how the transfer of learning can take place. The main concept that I have learned, which has been applicable in many of my classes is the idea of rhetoric and audience. In this class, I have learned to understand the concept of rhetoric, and similarly the concept of knowing your audience, and what may specifically appeal to that audience. In my FYS Intro Enviro Communications class, where we learn to give speeches effectively, I have had to use these concepts (rhetoric and audience) in order to give an effective speech. Through my CAD101A class I have learned to study my audience and alter my language in order to effectively engage with them as is desired by any effective speech presenter. My labor log has also greatly contributed to how and where I conduct my work for each
